After living in Edinburgh for over a year, there’s so many amazing things to do and see in the city. From the festivals to the hidden courtyards, and the traditional tourist activities to Scottish culture, a person could send months exploring the city. I realize that I did a horrible job of actually sharing information about Edinburgh while living there. Here are some of the must dos in Edinburgh and must sees in Edinburgh!
I spent the past 10 days between Hamburg, Germany (my future home) and Kiel, Germany, the Prince’s hometown. I’ve had such a wonderful time these past few months exploring Kiel with the Prince and last week, I got to experience the biggest event of the year – Kieler Woche! Kieler Woche (in English: Kiel Week) is the largest sailing event in the entire world. The event usually has around 5,000 sailors, 2,000 ships, and anywhere from 1-3 million visitors. I spent most of the week indulging in festival food and walking along the water!
By now you’ve probably realized that I’m obsessed with anything to do with politics. Combined that with the Prince’s obsession with politics, specifically British politics, and you pretty much have the biggest #LoveNerds (as my sister likes to call us).
I’ve been wanting to write this post for over a month but have been so paranoid of something not working out. Now that I finally signed my contract on Friday, I feel like I can more confidently announce this to everyone! I’ve alluded to this on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter but for some reason, I’ve been so nervous to announce it on my blog.
When I started planning my trip to Costa Blanca, known in English as the White Coast of Spain, I ran across the company Siesta Advisor. They specialize in adventure holidays and guided excursions. After contacting Tamas, the owner of the company, about possibly doing a beach excursion, he immediately replied back that my boyfriend and I would much prefer a kayaking excursion along the coast. How could I say no to that?!
I could spend weeks praising my favorite town in the entire world: Heidelberg, Germany. Beloved by Mark Twain (he lived here for 3 months and the city inspired his book, A Tramp Abroad), Victor Hugo, Ernest Hemingway, and Goethe, the charming city avoided damage during WWI and WWII, and thus much of the city remains the same as it was hundreds of years ago. I got to call this town “home” for almost 2 years and dream of moving back here one day.
Who knew that when I wrote Relationship Mistranslations // Part 1, it would become one of my most read posts in a single day! I knew that Prince was charming 😉 Well, I now present Part 2 of this series and may I dare to say that it is even better and funnier than Part 1?
I have to give credit to the Prince…he’s such a good sport about this and will even make his own contributions sometimes! The other night we were sitting in bed together and he turned to me and said, “You know, being in a multicultural relationship is way more fun than being in a ‘normal’ relationship.” I have to agree with him on that one 😉 I feel like our relationship is built upon laughing 24/7.
We bought our plane tickets back to this USA this July (first time for the Prince in the USA!) and I already told him that he will be able to write a blog post on his American observations. He’s excited to finally make his mark on my blog! Without further ado, here are some of the funnier mistranslations from the past month 🙂
You might be asking yourself, why only 6 pictures of Vienna? Because I literally only took 6 pictures in Vienna! Isn’t being sick while traveling the best?! I should preface this by stating that my THREE previous trips to Vienna either were canceled or fell through due to expensive prices, events canceled, and visa issues so I kept joking that I would never see Vienna. Well, that still holds true because I spent the entire 4 days in bed!
The most ironic part? I took a 10-day trip with my sister to Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna with the Prince flying into Vienna to meet us. I was totally fine for our 4 days in Budapest and day in Bratislava. However, on the 1-hour train ride from Bratislava to Vienna I turned to my sister and said, “Loren, I really don’t feel well.” She later told me that it was one of those times when just looking at my face she could tell I was REALLY sick and not just saying it.
When I lived in Croatia and Bulgaria last year, I made it my mission to see as many Balkan countries as possible! Through all my weekend trips, I managed to visit almost every single one. However, due to misconceptions (I’d always heard it was unsafe for solo female travelers!), I skipped out on Albania! Seriously regretting that decision!!!
