By now you’ve probably realized that I’m obsessed with anything to do with politics. Combined that with the Prince’s obsession with politics, specifically British politics, and you pretty much have the biggest #LoveNerds (as my sister likes to call us).
When I found out that the Prince had never been to London, I immediately planned our next trip there. And his only request: take a tour of the Palace of Westminster. Wish granted! I have such a love affair with London and the Palace of Westminster. 5 years ago, between my sophomore and junior year of university, I had the honor of interning with a frontbencher in the House of Lords. I spent my days wandering around the Palace of Westminster, working in his office, sitting in on debates, and occasionally going to the bar there ;)
It was so great to be able to experience the Palace of Westminster with the Prince! The entire time in London I kept joking, “What would you do if we missed the tour?!” and he kept saying, “Don’t even say that!” Well, of course we were running late and missed our initial tour time! I think the Prince almost had a heart attack ;) Thankfully, we were able to join the next tour group 20 minutes late.
I also must mention that he spent almost 50 pounds at the gift shop there! hahaha, I was dying watching him decide between his mugs and books and notebooks and postcards and pens!
The Prince is probably going to hate me for telling this story but the other day I woke up and told him I had the worst nightmare. I dreamed that an alligator got in my house (thanks Orlando for now having me paranoid) and kept having baby alligators all around the house. Every time I thought I had caught all the baby alligators, more kept appearing! It was so scary! After telling the Prince the dream, he said he had a nightmare as well. I asked him what happened and he said, “Well, I was elected Speaker of the House of Commons and was unable to answer points of order. It was really embarrassing.” Clearly, our definition of “nightmares” is a bit different ;)
I should note that during the tour, the Prince kept leaning over and whispering to me, “The tour guide got that fact wrong…and that fact wrong…and that fact wrong.” I think he could have given the tour himself ;)
We got so lucky and had the best weather while in London! Sunshine (!), blue skies, and fairly warm. Obviously, I took the extra good weather as an opportunity to have a mini photo shoot. The Prince is becoming quite the Instagram Boyfriend ;) I’m teaching him how to use my camera and I think (I hope?) he’s enjoying it!
After finishing up at Parliament and the Palace of Westminster, we headed to a few other popular tourist sites including Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. Instead of taking the tube, we opted to walk everywhere to take in the gorgeous sunshine!
Another EU Parliament building checked off our list! Thanks for being my favorite #LoveNerd, Prince! ;) And yes, we are both anxiously awaiting the results of the UK’s EU Membership referendum today! Anddddd, we might have differing political views on which way it should go ;)
