“Ich hab’ mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren.”
I left my heart in Heidelberg. I’ve been attempting to write this blog post for almost a week but words fail me. How do I sum up 18 wonderful, amazing, life-changing months in Heidelberg? I’ve met some of my best friends, taken amazing classes, gone on inspiration trips, and connected with the awesome blogging community!
Wow, wow wow…it feels like I’ve been away for so long! First: THESIS SUBMITTED! Officially no longer a student (for now) so it kind of feels really good not to have anything to do besides binge watch Parks & Recs. Also, how have I not watched this show before?! If you were ever wondering what I’m like in person…well, look no further than Leslie Knope. Overly ambitious, always excited about everything, future President of the United States 🙂
Just wanted to let everyone know I’m taking a blog hiatus until the beginning of March! Don’t worry, I’ll be back with some amazing content then 🙂 Between finishing up my thesis (due March 2nd!), fighting a sinus infection and ear infection right now, and getting ready to move from Germany to Croatia…my hands are a bit full at the moment 🙂
Prior to this past year, I’d never known anyone who had lost or had their passport stolen while abroad. Well, while in Rome in November, my sister not only had her passport, but everything in her purse stolen (wallet, camera, iPhone, etc.) while waiting at the train station. Two weeks ago when my friend was visiting me, we discovered her wallet (with her passport inside!) missing. While it still isn’t clear if it was stolen or lost, the consequences were still the same. However, while it might seem frantic at the moment, it really isn’t the end of the world!
Unless I want a really warm beach vacation, I’ll never travel to Italy during the summertime. Between the crowds, heat, and smell (you know the smell I’m talking about!), it is just not an enjoyable experience. However, traveling to Italy in the springtime. Now that’s a totally different story!
A few years ago, during my undergraduate years, I studied abroad in Germany for 6 months. During a break in the semester, my cousin came over from the USA and we did our “Epic EuroTrip.” We started in Nice and followed along the coast until we hit Pisa, Italy before going inland. It was seriously one of the best trips and the best part (besides being with my cousin!)? The lack of tourists and the amazing weather!
So whether you’re trying to plan your spring break or just want to get away for about 12 days, this spring itinerary is perfect for you! I’ve included all the places we went. However, I’ve made notes on how you can make it longer or shorter 🙂 Enjoy and happy traveling!
I had the pleasure of getting to know Marissa, from The Editorialist LA, during my last two years of college. I was the New Member Educator of my sorority (shout out to AOII!) and Marissa was a new member. We instantly clicked over our love of fashion, good food, cultural events/activities, London, and traveling! Today is World Cancer Day and the slogan this year is “Not Beyond Us.” We are so so so close to a cure and the answer is not beyond us. With the increase in treatments, trials, and research in the last few decades, a cancer diagnosis in the United States is no longer a death sentence.
I’ve mentioned this a few times in the past on this blog but I’m a proud two-time childhood cancer survivor! Looking at me today, you’d have no clue that I survived two diagnoses, multiple major surgeries (I now proudly have a 10 inch scar on my abdomen), two rounds of chemo that lasted a year…all before the age of 3!
Nestled in the hills high above the old town of Heidelberg, Germany, Schloss Heidelberg (or “Heidelberg Castle” in English) is the focal point of this medieval town along the Neckar River. Ever since I moved here 18 months ago, I’ve made it a goal to go to the castle once every season. To me, the city and castle look so different throughout the year: the changing fall colors, the snowy hilltops, the new blooms of spring, and the bustling tourist activity of the summer.

Hi! I’m Sara and I’m the gal behind Sara Says. Although my favorite place in the entire world to travel to is Europe, I’ve had some great trips and adventures here in the ol’ USofA. I’ve been to typical, well-known US tourist destinations such as Boston, New York City, New Orleans, etc, but one recent trip I took that really stuck out to me was a family trip to New Mexico for Christmas. I guess, since its not really a huge “must-see” destination you hear about too often, I didn’t have too many expectations. But boy was it amazing!
