Polar Vortex // Michigan

While everyone in the USA has been suffering from the polar vortex and horrible snow storms/temperatures all winter, Germany has been the exact opposite! We’ve received a total of 5 minutes worth of flurries. Honestly, I was really missing the snow and the experience of a real winter. Being from Michigan, I’m used to snow, cold temperatures, and a winter that lasts 6 months.

I was so excited to get home and have SNOW! The weeks leading up to my semester break, I kept fantasizing about being outdoors, enjoying the snow, snowboarding, and maybe even going on a drive to Lake Michigan! However, nothing has prepared me for the last month.

Waking up to all this snow the first few days was definitely exciting! But then this happened…

It was so unbearably cold that I didn’t even want to go outside. It felt like thousands of needles were going into my face every time I walked outside. All I wanted to do was stay in sweats all day and watch TV.

Occasionally, the outside would look like this…

On the rare day that it finally wanted to be in the POSITIVE twenties, I decided to go snowboarding!

And then there are those people that have embraced this strange, horrible, snowy, unbearable, crazy winter…

How have you been coping with the wild winter that the USA has seen? Luckily, I leave for Universal Studios (Florida) and Fairhope, Alabama in less than 10 days! This girl seriously needs some Vitamin D in her life :)
