Remember that one time I lived in Bulgaria? Well, I’m finally getting around to blogging about all my experiences there and realized I overlooked a major event: the Kazanlak Rose Festival! Did you know that Bulgaria produces up to 85% of all the world’s rose oil? And that it takes 3.5 tons of rose petals or around 1 million roses to produce 1 kilogram of rose oil! Seriously crazy. Rose oil is highly sought after because it is the basis of many perfumes and other cosmetic products.

Also, I kind of became best friends with them and they kept trying to get me to drink with them (which I kept declining!). Too funny!

If possible, try to visit the sunrise rose picking ceremony on the outskirts of the city!

What a beautiful, colorful festival. You are so fortunate to be able to travel and see all of this first hand. Some of this reminds me of my early years in Pennsylvania. Thanks for including me. Uncle Sonny.
