The Heidelberg Christmas Market has been absolutely wonderful! It is so nice to step outside after class and be right in a Christmas Market (all my classes are in the Old Town, which is where the Heidelberg Christmas Market is held)! I’ve been spoiling myself with Gluehwein (mulled wine), bratwursts, and crepes!
I fly home today for the United States for 3 weeks and I didn’t realize how much I was going to miss Heidelberg until I was walking through the Christmas Market yesterday. There is something…comforting…about Heidelberg and it is starting to feel like home to me. Traverse City will always be my home but I just feel very settled and content right now in Heidelberg. Though I must admit, I’m so looking forward to my comfortable bed, SNOW!, my mom’s cooking, and being spoiled by my parents in Traverse City : )
I forced myself to take lots of pictures of the Christmas Markets before I left. I decided to use my really nice camera instead of my iPhone for most of the photos…and I definitely think that the iPhone takes better pictures! So sorry in advance for some of the blurry photos : )
I mostly visited the Heidelberg Christmas Market during the nighttime but also thoroughly enjoyed it during the daytime. It doesn’t have the same charm but you forget all about that after a few Gluehweins
Here’s a secret to the Heidelberg Christmas Market. The best and most authentic market is located at the Castle in Heidelberg. Because it isn’t as popular or well-known with tourists, this market tends to be more filled with locals. I’d highly recommend checking this one out for a true Heidelberg Christmas Market experience!
